Some Thoughts about Water

Water spilling from a vessel

knew for the first time―freedom,

also recognized that it did not have its own shape.

It did not know why it felt sad for being transparent.

Water springs, water links, water flows,

gushing, murmuring, rushing―

it grew saplings, fed fish and moistened the earth.

It proudly sang.

One day in a certain month

it rained. It kept on raining.

Water penetrated into rocks. It enticed earth and sand.

Landslides occurred. Levees appeared.

The water level became higher and higher.

Burst―hit the avalanche of rocks and earth.

Amid the chaotic stream

water was forced to realize that it had no will of its own.
